Description
This 1972 UOP Shadow mk.iii can-am car was based on the 1/20 scale vintage Mclaren MPC M8D kit. It features a vacu-formed body, roll bar, suspension arms, and wing braces made from aluminum welding rod, and driver figure made from sculpt putty. The kit tub was used with little modification. The kit wing was cut into 12 sections, widened and used as well as the kit velocity stacks. The small front wing was fabricated and covered with sheet aluminum. Knock-off hubs were simulated using bent aluminum sheet also. Radiator ducting and cooling inlets were formed from sheet styrene and carefully positioned in the proper locations. Telephone wire and heavy mono fishing line simulated ignition and fuel-injection system components. A gloss black finish was air-brushed over gloss white, masked off to form the uop logos and 101 racing numerals. The lead free letters were computer generated on special decal paper made for your pc printer. This was my first experience with them, and i was very pleased with the results. Before applying them to the model, i applied them over a second layer of white decal sheet for better contrast. Small kit decals were added to the cockpit sides. Finally the model was covered with a final coat of future acrylic floor wax. Overall, the project took three months to complete.
