Ferrari Vignale 166MM Barchetta

This beautiful little Ferrari was delivered to its first owner in 1953 and achieved an active competition life in the hands of several owners until after the Mille Miglia in 2000 when it was stolen from outside a hotel in Brescia. For eight years it simply disappeared but was eventually found in an Italian scrapyard, minus the engine and gearbox. It was bought by its current owner in 2008 and brought to England for a total rebuild. In May 2010 it returned to the Millie Miglia for the famous run.

The owner of the car commissioned the model in 1:12 scale as it appeared in the 2010 event.

It has taken five months to build and even he engine has been built from scratch. I suppose the really difficult areas were drawing up all the parts for photo etching.. The grill in particular presented mathematical problems being assembled from horizontal and vertical strips of metal. These had to be drawn precisely at the correct angle and then produced in photo etched Nickel silver.. The windscreen surround also presented similar problems but I'm quite pleased with the finished result. The wheels and tires are from MGModel Plus
