Descripción
This my latest model, probably the ugliest model I’ve ever built, but therefore funny to have in my Mack collection It is a Mack MB 400 yard tractor with lifting 5th wheel. In the sixties Mack designed this model, functionality was the point of departure. Beauty was the second point (or point 10). The construction was uncomplicated, with lots of glass to give the driver an good visibility. The MB was designed for short distance hauling or distribution. But there where versions with 3 or 4 axels or a sleeper. This version is intended to be in use as a yard tractor at harbours or distribution terminals. Therefore it has a lifting 5th wheel what makes moving trailers a lot easier without lifting the supports. At the rear and front it has a towbar to move dolly’s and trailers. The resin kit comes from AIM (American Industrial Models) and it has a reasonable quality. It has some air bubbles and the walls are to thick. But with some sanding, filler, sanding etc. I was content with the results. The kit contains a cab, floorpan with a dashboard, two seats and some white metal parts. To build the Mack I have used the chassis from the AMT Ford C900 tractor even as the Detroit V8 engine. The wheels, fueltanks, battery boxes, air intake etc. came from the Mack sparebox. Instead the white metalparts as mirrors, toplights, emblems I have used parts of old Mack models kits. On the internet I have found enough information to rebuild the lifting 5th wheel. It is not a sparkling show truck, but as I started, funny to have in my Mack collection.
