Description
THESE TWO GROUP C PROTOTYPES FROM THE 1980'S, THE JAGUAR XJR-8 AND THE MAZDA 787B WERE BUILT STRAIGHT FROM THE BOX WITH THE ADDITION OF SCRATCH-BUILT RADIO ANTENNAS. THE PAINT SCHEMES WERE STRICTLY CONCEPTUAL. THE JAGUAR SPORTS A SPLASHY DARK BLUE/BRIGHT RED/METALLIC SILVER AIR- BRUSHED SCHEME INCORPORATING A JAGUAR LOGO I SAW ON TOMMY KENDALL'S TRANS-AM JAG AT ROAD AMERICA SEVERAL SEASONS AGO (SEE PHOTO BELOW). I FIRST SPRAYED THE LOGO AREA WHITE, MASKED OFF THE JAGUAR LOGO AREA WITH A TAPE STENCIL AND OVER-SPRAYED THIS AREA WITH THE DARK BLUE. I THEN AIRBRUSHED THE SILVER AND RED AREAS IN ONE SESSION USING MASKS I CUT FROM STIFF FILE FOLDERS. I WORKED THE TAMIYA KIT DECALS INTO THE SCHEME AND OVER-SPRAYED THE FINISHED LIVERY WITH A GLOSS-COAT OF JOHNSONS FUTURE FLOOR WAX. WITH THE LEMANS-WINNING MAZDA, I WANTED TO RETAIN THE FACTORY GREEN/BRIGHT ORANGE/SILVER COLOR SCHEME, BUT AVOID ALL THOSE PESKY WHITE DOTTED LINE DECALS THAT DONATO HAD TO CONTEND WITH IN BUILDING HIS MASTERFUL SUPER-DETAILED VERSION OF THE SAME CAR. I WAS SURPRISED AT HOW MUCH THE SILVER OVERSPRAY I APPLIED TONED DOWN THE BRIGHT GREEN AND ORANGE. HOPE YOU ENJOY MY PIX OF THE FINISHED MODELS!
